Q. What is the history of Zion Lutheran School?
A. Established in 1947 by Zion Lutheran Church, Zion Lutheran School provides a Christ-centered, academically oriented education for children from Kindergarten through Eighth Grade in the heart of San Francisco's Richmond District.

Q. Is Zion Lutheran School accredited?
A. Zion is fully accredited through the Western Association of Schools and Colleges (WASC) and the National Lutheran Schools Association (NLSA).

Q. How large are classes?
A. At Zion we find that limiting class size to 25 students ensures that all students can receive both individual attention and receive enjoy the breadth and depth of a diverse community.

Q. Is Financial Assistance Offered?
A. Yes, financial assistance is available for those who qualify and begins at the Kindergarten level. Zion works with the Guardsman fund and BASIC fund to determine aid. The Board of Education annually determines the cost of educating a child at Zion and on this basis establishes tuition for member and non-member students. Arrangements for tuition payments for the coming year are made in June or July, at the time of Registration.

Q. What about Zion Lutheran School's high school placement?
A. Zion provides a solid, specific, shared core curriculum in order to help children establish strong foundations of knowledge.  Zion graduates attend high schools all over the Bay Area, including the most competitive private and public schools, such as Lick-Wilmerding, St. Ignatius, Sacred Heart, Lowell, SF University and more.  Zion Lutheran School actively supports students in the high school application process.

Q. What does Zion's uniform consist of?
A. Dennis Uniform Company is the provider for our Blackwatch Plaid uniforms, navy blue pants/shorts, green and white polo shirts, and green sweaters. Hooded and crew neck sweatshirts are available through Dennis as well; children are able to wear their Zion sweatshirts during school. Zion offers a used-uniform program to offset some of the costs.

Q. How do I register my child?
A. Kindergarten enrollment: Individual tours for the coming school year begin October 1 and run through January 31. Please call the school office at 415-221-7500 or email Mrs. Jillian to schedule a school tour.

Grades 1-8 enrollment: Individual tours are available for those families requesting a transfer. Report cards, achievement test scores from the current school and a one-day visit by the student are also required. Please call the school office at 415-221-7500 or
